While we believe that every high school will one day have its own bioscience center, that reality is impractical in the near term. But such education can’t be delayed if San Diego students are to remain economically competitive. What we CAN create is a regional center of excellence with modern, world-class lab facilities and demonstration / lecture areas.
We have partnered with the San Diego County Office of Education and the Biocom Institute to develop a bioscience experience that can be shared with other public high schools. With the advent of low cost telecommunication technologies, lectures by leading researchers and drug development scientists can be broadcast live, archived and rebroadcast ad infinitum. Thus the potential exists for every high school student to learn about genome sequencing from the leading scientist in the field.
